Château La Croix Saint Georges

Château La Croix Saint Georges

91% MERLOT / 9% CABERNET FRANC

Height and silky velvet

Château La Croix Saint Georges is like cashmere. Imagine a soft cocoon, a caress that enrobes the mouth with velvety tannins. There are aromas of sweet, ripe stewed plum and compote-like black fruits, heightened by a touch of fresh tapenade on the finish, a saline note coming from the wine’s lively freshness. Vinification is precise and delicate: the berries are not trampled or crushed before being transferred into oak vats. Everything happens using gravity, as Jean Philippe Janoueix works his Pomerols with grace and care, firmly committed to obtaining perfect balance.

Technical sheet

Château La Croix Saint Georges

Positioned between Le Pin, Petit Village and Petrus, Château La Croix Saint Georges is remarkably placed upon the gravels of Pomerol’s plateau. This 4.5 hectare (11 acre) plateau is highly sensitive to hydric stress thanks to its natural drainage, encouraging deep root systems to develop, plunging deep into the soils in search of water and coolness. Château La Croix Saint Georges is easily recognised by the sculpture that decorates its façade: Saint Georges fighting on horseback, a reminder that the estate belonged to the Chivalric Order of the Hospitaliers of Saint-Jean of Jerusalem.

Pomerol

Finesse, elegance, voluptuousness

The small flagship appellation of the right bank, Pomerol and its 792 hectares have never allowed for any classification. The wines, which have a majority of Merlot, fascinate those who taste them and are sought after for their characteristic elegance. The soils are fast-draining, composed of gravel and fine clay upon which we have planted vines of at an unusually high density of up to 12,000 plants per hectare. This allows the terroir to reveal its full potential.
